controversy regarding voter list May 18, 2007

The ordinary citizen is closely observing the controversies arises out of the declaration of method of preparation of voter list by the Election Commission of Bangladesh. The Election Commission declared that the voter list will be digitally prepared by the Army based in the camp. Past voting centres will be used as the camps. It will take 18 months to prepare the list. It will not be possible for the team to go house to house carrying all the equipments. The major political parties of Bangladesh differ with the opinion of the EC. They said that preparing voter list in the camp will be in violation of Court order and it will not accepted by the people.
The EC told that it will take more than 18 months if they have to go house to house.
What we need is a concrete voter list, whatever the method is. The people must have the confidence on the process as well the outcome.
Even if the EC use the camps to compile the list, they must screen the list going house to house.
