The previous BNP govt. had already paid millions of dollar (as far as I know almost 3 millions of dollar to a Japanese consultant) to do feasibility study of this port. After the study, they found that it was very feasible to construct a deep sea port in Kutubdia area of the Bay of Bengal. It could not only very profitable financially; it could also put Bangladesh in the leading position in the region from trading, and transporting sector. But, for some unknown, mysterious reason, this government suddenly rushed to stop this national important project and simply said, “it will take too long to build such a port, so we shouldn’t build it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” We all should know that as soon as the Military backed "caretaker" government stopped this very important project, India and Myanmar started to build 2 deep sea ports! What does it mean? Did the caretaker government surrendered to foreign pressure??? I would like to know who gave this government to stop building a deep sea port on the Bay of Bengal.
