SSC result has been published and I have come across a news that the students with poor socioeconomic background are doing bad. Students with more affluent background are coming out with more success.

One of the main reasons is that for better result students have to depend on tutor support beyond school which the poorer class cannot afford. The affluent class is engaging one or more home tutors for their children.

They are also taking advantage also to admit their children in better schools of the city.

The poorer sections are clumped together in the other schools where teaching facilities are substandard than the required level. Forget about the poor private sponsored /city corporation schools, even in Government schools in the city the no of students in a class is beyond a teachers capability. How he teach 100 students in a class where it is heardly possible to reach one’s voice beyond 50 students. There are also problem in students teachers ratio, opportunity for developing of one’s attribute etc. The teachers of these school are engaged in tuition and coaching beyond office hour. So they remain less serious about their responsibility in classes. So the poor are affected in many ways.

The scenario in rural Bangladesh is more pathetic. The no of school is less, the good schools are scarce, good and dedicated teachers are unavailable, the school are ill equipped, no good teacher for English and Science etc.

The Government has the responsibility to provide equal opportunity for education for all children – the poor and the rich, children of the city or the village.

The Government should review our secondary education system and find out more pragmatic solution for all and create atmosphere where the talents of the poor can flourish, the poor do not remain poor because of his background.
