Intel launches ‘World Ahead Program’ in Bangladesh September 6, 2007

Mr. Craig Barrett,Chairman, Intel Corporation  in a press conference in Dhaka on 4th September, 2007  declared the launching of ‘Intel World Ahead Program’ in Bangladesh. Through this program Intel will try to develop infrastructure for Information and communication technology in Bangladesh.

Under this program Intel will supply 1000 PCs to different schools in 3 years in phases. In parallel, in association with Bangladesh Government  it will supply PCs to develop Computer Labs in 64 different districts of Bangladesh. It  will also support to develop high speed wireless W-Max Internet connection to schools of remote areas. In addition it will give training to the teachers and students and will help to develop different topics in local languages for imparting standard education.

Mr. Barrett said that he has visited 30 countries in last few years and it occurred to him that ICT is the best tool  to change the standard of living of rural people. By ICT economic progress could be possible by bringing positive changes in education, health etc.

Intel will support both the formal and informal education in Bangladesh. Intel also will work for E-governance  so that people can easily communicates with the Government. He also said that Intel will work to develop contents of education in collaboration of local organizations.

Mrs. Barbar Barrett, wife of Intel Chairman was also present in the press conference and Mr. Tapan Chowdhury , Adviser for Science and ICT of the CTG was present as the Chief Guest.

 

Intel Chairman in reply  to a question said that it is not thinking of investing in industry or business in Bangladesh at this moment.

Intel signed a MoU  with Grameen Solution to implement “World Ahead Program’ where Dr. Yunus of Grameen Bank was present.

Dr. Barrett also met with Dr. Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed, Chief Adviser of Banlgladesh Government on a courtesy call. CA offered his whole hearted support to Intel to initial program to alleviate proverty and achieving the millennium goal. Barrett said if Bangladesh Govt extend support then they will work in the other sectors in addition to education and IT.

He said ‘we are excited about bringing in our global experience to Bangladesh.’

Though a little late, we appreciate the Intel’s launching of ‘World Ahead Program’ in Banglsdesh.Hope that Bangladesh will make the best use of this program and one day Intel will make major investments  in  partnership with Bangladesh as the Chief Adviser to the Care Taker Government wishes.
