Bangladesh thundered the cricket world again by beating West Indies in cricket short version twenty20 today (13th September 2007).

The first ever world cup of twenty20 version started in South Africa 2 days back.

On the first day of twenty20, West Indies though battled brilliantly with century from Chris Gyle but defeated by the defiant South Africa on the their home ground.

Toady it was the first match for Bangladesh and second match for West Indies.

Winning the second match was a must for West Indies. After winning the toss, West Indies preferred to bat and scored 164 by some quick sixes in the last minutes. Bangladesh lost 2 early wickets but recovered by the brilliant partnership of Ashraful and Aftab, both made more than 50. Ashraful scored 61 from 27 balls and Aftab batted through the innings to the end to reach victory and made 62.

Twenty20 is the new version of cricket to suit the sentiment and schedule of people of modern times. It was thought to be power play where batsmen will smash the ball like anything  and bowlers will suffer in agony.

I was rather skeptical about the success of Bangladesh in this short form of cricket considering the height and strength of our boys. But they proved us wrong. They played wonderfully and proved that it is not all power of muscles that counts in cricket. Cricket in its short form also needs art and technique.

The defeat of Australia in the hands of Zimbabo  and win of Bangladesh against West Indies proved it so.

We feel proud for the success of our boys and congratulate them.

Ashraful acknowledged the impact of commando training in their preparatory phase for the tournament.

We also remember David Whitemore on this occasion for his contribution in building the base of our boys for a prospective future in cricket.
