Twenty20:Bangladesh lacks maturity September 20, 2007

Bangladesh won the toss and sent Sril Lanka to bat as was expected by Ashraful, the Bangladesh Captain. Bangladeshi boys bawled  wonderfully including the bowler Mahmudullah and they restricted  Sri Lanka within 147. A score which is not enough to feel confident to win.

So Bangladesh had a chance to beat Sri Lanka. But Bangladeshi Batting collapsed as usual.

Opener Najimuddin scored 0 was gone first. He could not come out his nervousness in the big matches though he scored brilliantly in the preparatory matches. Tamim’s 3, came from 14 balls and caught out with a desperate shot as he sometimes make. Aftab who started brilliantly and scored 18 and who is rarely defensively and always in a mood to make big shots bold out while trying to drive a straight shot to the boundary. Then Ashraful was out with 4 with a silly shot as he sometimes do when the burden on his shoulder is high. Then newcomer Nadif  ran out for his tile from an uncalculated attempt. Sakiib also embraced the same fate  though he scored 18  playing with patience. Mashrafi is a hit and run guy who scored 12. Bangladesh scored 82  runs with 10 wickets in only 15.5 over.

How will you explain this loss? Their shot selection is wrong/their running between wicket is poor/ their defensive technique is weak/ they are inconsistent/ they are too young/they break down under pressure/temperamentally they are wrong/ their approach to the game is at fault.

Whatever way you explain, Bangladesh boys lacks maturity. It is not because of age only. Consistency, patience, judgment, control of emotion etc are sign of maturity which our boys are lacking.

One day this immaturity will go, but the ordinary citizen is feeling  a little bit frustrated as it is taking a little longer time than expected.

An ordinary citizen
