Legality of trying under Emergency power rule will be judged in the extortion case filed by Ajam J Chowdhury against Sk Selim and in which Hasina was implicated. The case may be lengthened and may ultimately require the verdict from the Supreme Court.

In the mean time, the amicus curiae, six legal experts appointed by the High Court opined that there is no scope to try Hasina’s extortion case under EPR.

The Attorney General has said that the fate of hundreds of other cases depends on the judgment of this case.

Observers also noticed that with the judgment in hanging barring corrupt politicians from polls will be uncertain.
