Ex PMs are not fit for truth commission

No mercy scope if jailed for 2 years or more

Shahdin Malik, Advocate of the Supreme Court in an article in Prothom Alo on 3/04/08 said that the truth commission is not in accordance of the Constitution. He opined that if it is allowed, then many corrupt people will be exempted from actual punishment.

But considering the reality of Bangladesh, we believe that truth Commission will help a lot to combat corruption in Bangladesh and many constitution experts will not agree with his assumption.

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman said that they have no disagreement with the government on the formation of the Truth Commission. But he hopes that no particular party should be given any opportunity by the truth commission.

The Daily Star Editorial opined that truth commission might create more problems than solve. It questioned why it has taken so many months for the formation of the truth commission; why it is only for 6 months and what will happen to similar crimes after the dissolution of the truth commission. We believe that the truth commission is a temporary measure in a very special circumstances and it should not last for an indefinite period.

The Daily Star editorial welcome the reexamination of the drat by the Government.
