US suspended GSP facilities for Bangladesh a few days back that sparked a blame game between Government and opposition on the issue.
PM herself and other ministers are blaming Khaleda Zia and BNP men for their in our role in and outside the country for the cancellation of GSP. Khaleda is also blamed for the article she had written in the Washington Times, the authorship she denied in the Parliament.
Under the GSP that means Generalized System of Preference under which act the export of some products from the developing countries get duty-free tariff treatment.
The suspension will affect Bangladesh to some extent and it is assumed that a few percent of total trade of the trade now be affected by the US action. But the measure will affect the image of Bangladesh in the world and if EU takes the same policy , then Bangladesh will be severely affected.
USA has cancelled the privilege on the plea that Bangladesh is not maintaining the minimum facilities and safety to its workers.
To overcome the complexity, Bangladesh should concentrate its effort to improve the conditions of the workers in factories and industries rather each other for the fall.
