Judges in Bangladesh are performing very important roles in the political process in Bangladesh. Chief Justice Abu Sayeed Chowdhury became President in January 24 1972 after liberation of Bangladesh. Chief Justice Sayem ascended in November 6 1975 to the presidency of Bangladesh after the death of Bangabandhu Sk Mujibur Rahman in August 1975. Then Chief Justice Abdus Sattar became President of the country on 30 May 1980 after the death of President Ziaur Rahman. Justice Ahsanul Hoque was president for years during Ershad regime. After the fall of President Ershad, Chief Justice Shahabuddin became the president of the country under whose supervision, new democratic election held in 1991. In 1996 Supreme Court adopted Caretaker Government formula on the consensus of political parties that was endorsed by the Parliamenf. Then Chief Justice Habibur Rahman became the Chief Adviser of the caretaker government. Justice Shahabuddin became president for the second time from 1996 to 2001. Chief Justice Latifur Rahman became the head of the Caretaker Government as the amendment ratified in 1996 and under his leadership general election was held in 2001.
Then Chief Justice Khairul Haque amended the constitution and added 15th amendment to the constitution in 2012 and created a political uncertainty in the country.
