Human Rights leader Arrested August 12, 2013

The secretary of Odhikar, a human rights organization is arrested and put on remand for 5 days. Adilur Rahman is arrested as said due to their report on the killing of activists of Hefazat-e-Islam on May 5 and 6 2013. It is said that Odhikar distorted the facts and photos to embarrass the government.
Khalda Zia, leader of major opposition BNP protested the arrest. Human Rights activists also observing the development with anxiety.
With this new move of the government , the issue of Hefazat will get a new life in the political discussions in Bangladesh.

Minister of Information Mr. Hasanul Huq Inu justified the arrest of Adilur Rahman saying that he has served the purpose of BNP Jamaat. He claimed that a single man was not killed on that night by the government force.
High Court suspended the remand of Adilur Rahman ordered by a lower court.

Human Right activists and organizations of home and abroad condemned the arrest that includes Advocate Sultana Kamal, Ain O Salish Kendro, Human Rights Watch Asia, Amensty International.
Political leaders and parties and different nations also expressed their concern that include Khaleda Zia, EU and USA.
