He is taken away from his house on the night of 12th December 2013 by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB). our elite force. RAB explained that Ershad was taken to CMH (Combined Military Hospital) as he felt ill.
Prior this arrest, Ershad is in favour of not participating in the general election going to be held on 5/01/2014. Before that 7 of his leaders were included in the newly formed ministry of Prime Minister Sk. Hasina. He himself and his party men submitted nomination paper for members of parliament. After changing his stand he urged  his party ministers and advisers to the government  to resign and  his party men to withdrew their nomination papers from the office of returning officers  of election commission. He himself submitted applications to withdraw his nominations from 3 seats. Some of ministers resign but not all. Among the parliament nominees , some of them responded but not all. Ershad also urged Election Commission not to allow ‘Plough’, his party symbol to anyone. But EC didn’t comply with his request.

In the meantime, JP has developed 3 different currents. One faction is lead by Rowhan Ershad and include Anisul Islam Mahmud and Ziauddin bablu and has a closeness to the present government. The second faction is led by HM Ershad  and a third faction is headed by Kazi Jafar Ahmed, who was Vice President of the party and separated himself from his party president on the issue of stand in the coming election.
