Spillage of oil from a tanker that was hit by another vessel causes the oil to spread over more than 50 km along the coast of Sundarban and into the rivers.
The incident creates great threat to the natural resources including the trees, animals and fishes.[1]
Government so far couldn’t take effective measures to contain the spill. ordinary people are trying to clear the spilled oil in very primitive method.
Minister of river communication opined that the damage is not much , but the assertion was contradicted by experts and Ministry of Environment.
Experts also say that it will take long time to recover from the damage.
