Bill Gates came to Bangladesh with his wife Melinda on December 5, 2005 in the midst of political turmoil in the last year of BNP government. I was a little worried whether the visit would be canceled for political unrest during that period.
But Bill and Melinda visited Bangladesh as scheduled and were given pompous reception.They visited one or two sites to see the women empowerment through microfinance , he delivered speech in a seminar on ‘Innovation and Partnership’, sat with the government officials and met the press. He also made a courtesy call on the then Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia and appreciated the government effort to support the ICT development. (more…)
